Edsel, que grande mancada corporativa. Haviam dois Edsels: os "grandes" Corsair e Citations, montados pela Mercury, e os "pequenos" Pacer e Ranger, montados pela Ford. Planejado muito cedo e lançado muito tarde, bem num ano de forte recessão que comprometeu as vendas de todas as marcas. Era bem característico no primeiro ano de fabricação, feioso no segundo e quase igual a um Ford no terceiro e último ano. Eu gosto do modelo 1958, da grade às lanternas, das combinações de cor exageradas, tão tipicamente anos 50...
Edsel, crass marketing. There were two Edsels to fill the gap between Ford and Mercury: the "big" Corsair and Citation, assembled in the Mercury plants, and the "small" Pacer and Ranger, assembled in the Ford plants. The car was planned too early and released too late, right in a recession year when all makes made bad sellings. It was quite distinctive in its first year, plain ugly in its second, almost indistinctive from a Ford in its last. Personally i like all its 1958 features, from the "Olds-sucking-a-lemon" center grille to the "banana" tailights. In garish 2-tone or even 3-tone, so very Fifties.
